Ethnomedical survey of plants used for the management of HIV and AIDS-related conditions in Mbulu District, Tanzania

The aim of this Study was to document medicinal plants used in the management HIV and AIDS-related conditions Mbulu District. An ethnomedical survey conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire. main considered during study were; cough, frequent fevers, diarrhea, weight loss, oral thrush, genital warts, candidiasis, abscesses, skin rashes, shingles venereal diseases. Literature also carried out compile supplementary data on pharmacological activities respective plants. Thirty seven plant species from 23 families were reported. with highest number documented Acanthaceae, Caesalpiniaceae, Compositae Verbanaceae three each. information 37 reported showed that, could be linked supporting uses, related biological activity 12 had been display varying against HIV-1. Sixteen identified recorded new uses conditions, while 8 16% did not have any previously or activities, respectively. Key words: Medicinal plants, indigenous knowledge, conditions.
